Sam's research and teaching are centered around the ecology and management of native and non-native insects. Aside from work, Sam enjoys spending time with his wife (Becca), their sons (Owen and Callum), running, playing soccer, and hiking with the family dogs (Ani and Lulu).

Manoj Pandey, Postdoctoral scholar

Manoj is currently investigating optimization of trap deployment for the detection of non-native bark and ambrosia beetles. His research interests include insect responses to environmental changes, ecology and management of invasive species, and forest insect management and conservation. Outside work, he enjoys traveling, hiking, playing soccer, playing guitar, and painting.

Emmanelle is pursuing a MS in Entomology, investigating the spread and management of the invasive box tree moth. In her spare time, Emmanelle enjoys reading, hiking, and horror movies.

Hannah Dehus, PhD Student

Hannah is pursuing a PhD in Environmental Science in the Environmental Sciences Graduate Program, studying urban mosquito ecology and control in the Department of Entomology. Her research aims to investigate how conservation efforts and mosquito control practices influence mosquito-borne disease prevalence in cities. In her free time, Hannah enjoys traveling, hiking, and making ceramic pottery.

Brooke is pursuing an MS in Plant Health Management, investigating spread of Beech leaf disease using spatial modeling. In her free time, Brooke enjoys hiking, camping, and baking.

Thomas Paul, PhD student

Tom is pursuing a PhD in Entomology, researching drivers of global patterns of invasion by insects closely associated with trade. Outside of entomology and learning about critters, Tom plays his fair share of video games, spends time playing cello, and loves to hike and ID wildflowers along the way.

Jessi is researching ambrosia beetle thermal biology and biosecurity of the wood packaging materials pathway. Outside work and school, she enjoys hiking, collecting and pinning insects, playing video games, and spending time with her pets!

Afsoon is pursuing a PhD in Entomology, investigating hard tick ecology and behavior with a focus on tick questing. She is broadly interested in vector-borne diseases and public health. In her spare time, Afsoon enjoys reading and spending time outdoors.

Cesia Nazaret Cerrato, Visiting Scholar

Cesia is a visiting scholar working on a variety of forest health projects, splitting time with Dr. Kayla Perry's group. Her work involves a hybrid of laboratory sample processing, insect identification, and field data collection. Cesia loves research and wants to become a renowned scientist in the future, helping to encourage public interest in conserving the flora and fauna that live in forests.

Ellen is currently working on improving and engaging in community science for pest and beneficial insect identification and tracking. She is broadly interested in the application of geospatial science in entomology and forestry, as well as connecting professional and general audiences to science. In her free time, she enjoys hanging out with her church family, running and reading good books.
